As a new Dad, I’m well aware that my moving theater-going experiences will be greatly reduced. However, I’m still looking forward to a number of movies coming out this year, which looks to have a bumper crop of sci-fi and action/adventure, which are just up my alley.
Admission – I’ll pretty much watch Tina Fey and Paul Rudd in anything. Together? Of course.
After Earth – I should be concerned that M. Night Shyamalan is behind the camera for this, but I’m willing to give it a shot.
Broken City – I’m a sucker for government/political thrillers, and this one stars Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe. Could be really good or really bad, we’ll see.
Catching Fire (The Hunger Games) – Haven’t read the book (yet), but will and am looking forward to this.
The Counselor – Ridley Scott directing Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem and Michael Fassbender is a no brainer for me.
Elysium – Neill Blomkamp’s first film after District 13. Can’t wait.
Ender’s Game – Also haven’t read the book (yet), but know the story and very interested.
Gambit – New Coen Bros.
Gangster Squad – Amazing cast, great subject, hope they don’t screw it up.
The Heat – Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy in a buddy cop film? Intrigued.
Iceman – True-story mob movie with James Franco and Robert freakin Davi? I’m in.
Identity Thief – Comedy with Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy, in a movie by Craig Mazin, directed by Seth Gordon.
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone – Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi and Jim Carrey in comedy about magicians.
Iron Man 3 – The second installment was dreadful. Hopefully Shane Black puts this franchise back on course.
Kick-Ass 2 – Can’t wait to see where this goes.
Monsters Univeristy – How can I pass up a chance to see more Mike Wazoski?
The Monument’s Men – WWII Nazi-hunting.
Now You See Me – Been interested in this for awhile. Great cast, and the “magicians who pull of huge heists” is a meaty hook.
Oblivion – The Tom Cruise resurgence has been satisfying, and this looks incredibly original, which is hard to do in sci-fi.
Pacific Rim – Giant robots vs. aliens? Either going to be spectacular or ridiculously bad.
Pain & Gain – Michael Bay stepping away from Transformers to return to the Bad Boys/The Rock style action with humor? Interested.
The Place Beyond the Pines – Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper in the same movie, good enough for me.
Promised Land – New Gus Van Sant with Matt Damon, John Krasinski and Frances McDormand? Good cast, great director and a timely subject.
The Purge – One night every year crime of any kind is permissible. Never heard of that before.
Red 2 – The first one didn’t seem connect, hopefully this will.
R.I.P.D. - Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds play undead cops.
Runner Runner – Off-shore gambling movie with Justin Timberlake.
Rush – Ron Howard racing movie.
Star Trek Into Darkness – Hopefully the second JJ Abrams-helmed Star Trek is as successful as the Wrath of Kahn (doubtful, but hoping).
The End of the World – Comedy about celebrities facing the apocalypse – could be hiliarous, could be Your Highness.
The World’s End – Anything by Edgar Wright is on my radar.
Thor: The Dark World – Yes, more Thor please.
The To-Do List – Aubrey Plaza, ’nuff said.
Trance – New Danny Boyle film, so I’m in.
Upstream Color – Shane Carruth’s follow-up to Primer. ’nuff said.
White House Down – It’s been awhile since there’s been a good White House thriller.
World War Z – Not sure I’m on board with fast zombies, but still intrigued.
Zero Dark Thirty – the “kill” bin Laden movie. Not sold on the accuracy, but interested nontheless.
