Friday 5 Faves: Movies of 1988

For this week’s Friday 5 Faves, I decided to revisit 1988, the year I graduated from grade school to high school, or in my case, from a small private Catholic grade school to a large public high school. Culture shock indeed.

Luckily, movies were pretty damn good this year, and my family had A) a VCR and B) cable movie channels. I spent a lot of time watching movies, and while the movies of the 1980s have the same bad reputation as automobiles of the 1970s, this proves false the lie.

Here are my top 5 favorite films from 1988:

#5. Beetlejuice

#4. Tucker: The Man & His Dream

#3. Midnight Run

#2. Bull Durham

#1. Die Hard

April 2013: Music & Movies

MUSIC
Guided By Voices: English Little League – familiar terroritory
Atoms for Peace: Amok – glitchy goodness

MOVIES
The Queen of Versailles – disgusting excess
What To Expect What You’re Expecting – expected stupidity
Rock of Ages – unwatchable schlock
John Carter – entertaining adventure
Jeff, Who Lives At Home – uneven oddness
Total Recall (2012) – decent revision
