11 Things About Me

  1. I spent nine years in Catholic school, which apparently didn’t hold because I’m currently agnostic. Not atheist, because that implies some level of certainty, and if there is one thing I have learned as I’ve gotten older is that I’m less certain, but that’s o.k.
  2. I am like Nigel Tufnel of ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ in that I own a guitar I have never played, rarely touch, and prefer you don’t look at.
  3. Even though longevity is trait on both sides of my family, I am constantly worrying about having enough time.
  4. My childhood pet was a cat named Vinnie ‘Boom Boom’ who liked to stand on his hind legs and box, pretty much hated everyone, and twice escaped the house only to return. Once on his own, once thanks to neighbors who found him in their basement. He killed their parrot and ate it.
  5. Freshman year of high school I bet my parents that I could maintain a 90 average, or B+, for four straight years. The prize for doing so would be a brand new Porsche 911. I even had them sign a document in front of a witness, who also signed it, so I could hold them to it. I blew it the first year, and ended up with a solid C average for high school.
  6. I have line danced.
  7. Franklin Delano Roosevelt is my favorite President based on a 1,200 page biography I picked up randomly at a book store written by a Canadian newspaper baron who was convicted of criminal fraud.
  8. As a child, I put things like “filing cabinet” and “coat rack” on my Christmas list to Santa Claus. I think this explains a lot.
  9. I grew up on Billy Joel and still love his albums. Even the bad ones. I even went to see the musical, “Movin’ Out,” based on his music. And I hate musicals.
  10. Since the age of eleven, not a year has gone by that I have not been employed.
  11. Freshman year of high school I went to one meeting of the rifle club, which shot small caliber rifles in the basement rifle range. I was supposed to pay a fee (I think ten or fifteen bucks) for the ammo, but didn’t, and never went back. I imagine the interest owed on that is astronomical.

Lynsey’s Questions and My Answers

  1. What’s your favorite place you’ve ever traveled? I like Las Vegas and the North Carolina coast, but I’ve never been as relaxed and enjoyed a vacation as much as Santa Barbara, California. The food, the wine, the weather – perfect.
  2. How many times have you moved in your entire life? Oh boy. Four times in Buffalo, NY. In high school, moved from Buffalo to Cleveland. That’s five so far. Five times in college, so that’s ten. Back to Buffalo, then to Columbus, up to a dozen. Four more times, bringing it to grand total of sixteen. So far.
  3. What do you do to calm down when you’re stressed or upset? I used to do stupid shit like a punch a wall, but as I’ve gotten older, I try to think about whatever it is that’s stressing or upsetting me, and consider if it’s really that bad in the grand scheme. Usually, I just feel like a jerk and move on.
  4. What’s your favorite alcoholic drink? I’m not much of a drinker. Lately I’ve preferred Yuengling.
  5. Do you prefer to be outdoors or indoors? Definitely indoors.
  6. If you were on death row, what would your last meal be? Beef on Weck from Anderson’s, chicken wings from Duff’s, a slice of Bocce pizza, burger from Graffiti and a giant pice of Fish Market carrot cake.
  7. Who was your first celebrity crush? Erin Gray of Buck Rogers, later of Silver Spoons.
  8. What was your favorite year of college and/or of high school (and why)? My second Senior year at Bowling Green State University, which as Fall 1996/Spring 1997. At WFAL, I went from being the Assistant Music Director to the Co-Programming Director, travelled to New York City for the first time to got to the College Music Journal Festival, met Mike Watt, Greg Eklund of Everclear, lots of other cool people and saw lots of cool bands. First time playing open mic nights, first year living off campus, saw George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars at the Newport, saw The Tragically Hip at the Toledo Zoo and Cobo Hall, saw Golden Smog and Wilco at the Majestic Theatre and had, what I would consider, the most fun of any year of college. And classes went well, too.
  9. Tell me about an inside joke you have with your parents. I got nothing.
  10. What was your first favorite song, and do you still like that song now? One of the first cassettes I ever bought was Led Zeppelin’s “Physical Graffiti,” and my favorite song was “In My Time of Dying.” Still love that song.
