A quick update on the writing of the book, now officially titled (by me) “Don’t Know What You Got Til It’s Gone: The Complete History Of and Guide To the Power Ballad.” Quiet a mouthful, eh?
You may or may not remember that when I was wrapping up my 2011 Goals I mentioned that the book was done. The plan was spending a year writing the first draft, than spend 2012 revising, editing, etc. And that happened, sort of. But something bad happend: I discovered a crapload of songs I missed. Now, in my defense, 90% of the artists I missed I had never heard of. These were not your mainstream artists like Poison and Bon Jovi, I’m talking about obscure bands like Cobra, Icon and, well, you get the idea. Yes, I missed a few by bigger bands, but they were mostly deep cuts.
Cut to today. After a cursory run through the list to dump the obvious non-Power Ballads, I whittled it down to about 150 or so songs I needed to review. So far I’ve knocked out about 1/2 of them, and I’m using my time as wisely as possible to get as many done as possible before my self-imposed October 31st deadline.
As of 10/31, all writing will cease and it will be editing and revision time with plans for a late 2012/early 2013 release via Amazon. And that’s that.
