Friday Fave: Texas Toast

Friday Fave returns triumphantly! This week, I sing the praises of a soft and delicious Texas Toast, specifically the loaves sold at my local grocery store of choice, Giant Eagle, by Schwebels.

There are two very specific reasons why Texas Toast has become a recent fave:

1. French Toast

2. Grilled Cheese

It just so happens that Texas Toast is perfect for making two things greatly appreciated in our household. And when I talk about French Toast and Grilled Cheese, I’m not just talking plain old French Toast with some syrup, or Grilled Cheese with some boring slices of processed American. I’m talking stuffed French Toast with Mascarpone and Orange Marmalade, and Grilled Cheese with caramelized onions, grilled red peppers and goat cheese.

There is also a certain level of irony to using Texas Toast to make French Toast. I can’t think of two cultures more diametrically opposed than Texas and France, although someone will probably burst my bubble and mention that French Toast has nothing to do with France.
