As a part of receiving my Sports Information and Journalism degree from BGSU, part of completing the “journalism” end of that was spending a semester writing for the school newspaper, The BG News.
My main assignment was to cover the track and field team, a sport with which I had zero familiarity. There was a steep learning curve, and a great deal of my writing came from simply sitting down with the coach after meets and getting fed stats and relevant information. I wrote about other things besides track and field, but I’ll cover that in the next entry.
